Yesterday I had a great day - for the most part. I got up early in the morning to go spend the day in Rockport with a group of friends I see once a month. We had great weather! We spent the morning on the beach, had lunch in various places (there were 11 of us with differing tastes in food. I don't eat anything that looks like a giant cochroach so I wasn't going to the lobster place! :) ) Then there was browsing in cute shops followed by a photo session at one of those places where they put you in period costumes, and we decided to go as wenches/sluts/bad girls from, like, the 19th century! Yes, I'll scan one of the photos when I have time. Really fun!!! Then more shopping and finally the trip home. Truly a great day.

I arrived home to find my all my housemates terribly upset because a giant hurricane was about to descent on New Orleans, which is where all of them lived before moving to the Boston area. I'd been happily oblivious to world events all day. I wanted to show off all my purchases and talk about my great day, and instead I was being shown "end of the world" type weather forecasts that you only see in science fiction disaster movies, and coping with very stressed-out people. Let's hope the hurricane doesn't turn out that bad - it's going on right now.

This morning the nine-year-old was crawling around on the floor with a laundry basket on his back, pretending to be a turtle. Then he was a turtle in its shell, hiding from the hurricane. Then he got into the laundry basket and was a turtle on its back, trying to ride out the hurricane. For once the television was tuned to something other than the cartoon network, and the kid got creative, and entertainingly so!
