Hub2 actor picspam
Mar. 19th, 2009 05:20 pmI'm not capable of a coherent con report at this point, so I'm starting with a picspam of the actors who were there. I remember laughing. A lot. Eve Myles was very funny. So was Tom Price. And everyone fell in love with Matt Rippy (the "real Jack Harkness"). After getting his autograph (and chatting amiably with him...he was very easy to talk to and chatted with everyone) I marched up to the registration desk to buy a photo shoot with him. Lovely man. Kai and Gareth were there too, and fun as ever. And Burn Gorman was delightful, and very cuddly. Dianebear will get her own post later on, considering sunday was the best day of her life (so far)! :-)
( most of these are a bit blurry! Sorry! My camera and I fail! )

Snow, but no "snow day" for me
Jan. 28th, 2009 10:01 amYes, I made it into work this morning. My work doesn't close because of snowstorms. My entire window ledge has been covered with pigeons this morning. Right now there are 8 of them. Usually they fly away when I arrive and turn on the office light. Today they're not bothering to move. I don't blame them, given a choice I wouldn't move either! and I'm enjoying them being out there. Here's just a few (they won't all fit in the picture.)

Tonight's night sky
Dec. 1st, 2008 07:01 pmDid any of you(those of you in the Northern Hemisphere) happen to see the moon this evening? The moon with two rather bright objects (obviously planets) near it? I knew this had to be something unusual so I grabbed my camera when I got home and went outdoors to photograph it. Then I googled it. Sure enough it's a rare alignment of Jupiter and Venus with the moon. That was one of many articles about it.
( and here's my photo, the best I could do with my little camera )

The Hub convention picspam (actors)
Oct. 21st, 2008 08:48 pmHere's the first of my con reports, consisting pretty much entirely of a picspam of the actors' Q&As. Most of my pics are less than fabulous but I've photoshopped them as best I can. ( pics of some of the gorgeous men and lovely women who bring my current favorite tv show to life )
Albino squirrel!
Oct. 4th, 2008 07:51 pmI saw an albino squirrel in the tree outside my kitchen window today. And I managed to get pics of it.
EDIT to add: or it might be a white squirrel.
pasticcio googled and found out such a critter exists. And from my pic it looks like it probably didn't have red eyes. Either way it's something I don't often see. ( wanna see and decide for yourself? )

Dragon*con writeup, part two
Sep. 4th, 2008 07:44 pmI've decided to put part two here instead of my (mostly) fic journal because I got so many comments I was constantly having to back and forth between the two journals. So I'm making this a public post. This post is going to focus on the Doctor Who and Torchwood fans, and also a little on Brittrack, the wonderful people who made this all possible at Dragon*con. ( click here for lots of pics including bears, fans, costumers, and all sorts of wonderful and creative people. )
On vacation!
Aug. 27th, 2008 03:02 pmI'm home from work now -- I left early so I can pack because I leave in the morning to go to Atlanta for Dragon*con! Yikes! :-)
I don't know if I'll have computer access there but hopefully I will come home with lots of photos to accompany my con report. I've left my days mostly unplanned thus far, other than all the Torchwood programming, some of the Doctor Who programming, and the parade.

Spectacle Island
Aug. 21st, 2008 06:06 pmI'd been wanting to do something summer-like before the summer vanished, and had been wanting a boat ride. So I finally decided to go to Spectacle Island. I hadn't been out to any of Boston's Harbor Islands in many years and this one is new. (Well, the island itself isn't new but it's being a park is new.) So after several failed scheduling attempts (due to incessant rain this summer) I finally made it out there last sunday, with
denicemarcell and
gracewillow.
( wanna see a few photos from Spectacle Island? )
On the return boat ride I stood in the very front of the boat, holding on tight to the railing while the boat moved at high speed, picking up lots of wind. It was such a warm day I wasn't at all cold in shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. As long as I didn't look down at the waves I managed to keep from getting motion sick. It was exhilarating! :-)

Today's wildlife pics
Jul. 26th, 2008 05:32 pmI've been having a quiet day at home: did laundry, revised a Torchwood fanfic story (haven't gotten up the nerve to post it yet), and did some grocery shopping -- it was time for a Trader Joe's run, so I walked around Arlington Reservoir first. Lovely, steamy hot day. I love summer!
( here are three photos. Warning: closeup of bees in the third photo, just letting you know in case anyone is bee-phobic. )

I love my new camera!
Jun. 29th, 2008 06:06 pmI'd planned to be at one of
urbpan's nature walks this morning - even set my alarm and got up early but I was moving slowly...and just needed to relax and take my time so I didn't make it. As a consolation prize, I walked over to Spy Pond in the morning to try out my new camera.

How strange is this?
Jun. 26th, 2008 12:17 pmLast week there were two posts on my friends list about missing cats. The posts came right after one another on the same day -- mind you these people (and cats) live thousands of miles apart. I've been following the two different missing-cat sagas for days.
Today I checked my friends page and both cats have returned to their respective homes. Both on the same day! How strange is that? I'm very glad the cats are home and safe, though. Silly kitties. :-)

That was so much fun!
May. 17th, 2008 09:50 pmI had a great time at tonight's concert. I knew lots of people in the audience, and it was just fun! Today was the "unofficial" concert (a fundraiser for the UU church where we rehearse) and tomorrow is our official concert in Boston. I'm looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow! And there are still tickets available if any local-to-Boston people want to go. Info is here.
Nature walk photos :-)
May. 13th, 2008 12:04 pmAs I said in my previous post, on sunday I had the privilege of being able to take part in one of
urbpan's nature walks. This one was at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, which is also an aboretum.

Here's one of the pretty scenes we saw there.

Today's public service announcement
May. 1st, 2008 12:46 pmI just saw this in someone's LJ and just had to share it here.
In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.
Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish), then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.
If you're in the US and want to do something tiny to annoy the homophobes please call this number. It takes all of about 20 seconds. I just did it, and I've never even seen this show. :-) Another vote for boys kissing! :p

I took today as a vacation day -- very much needed! I spent the morning doing laundry and futzing around on Torchwood communities, posting the story I wrote on saturday (which was scary but the feedback's been really nice.) etc.
Then I took my hiking boots and drove up to Arlington Heights, and took a walk around the reservoir to start attempting to break them in. I'm cautiously optimistic. After my walk I went to Trader Joe's (still wearing the hiking boots) and forgot I had them on. Always a good sign.
And since I went for a nature walk, of course you get to see a little of what I saw today. ( birds, birds, and for a change of pace, birds! )

A few birdies
Mar. 4th, 2008 09:32 amAs I mentioned in a post yesterday, on sunday I actually left the house and took a walk! It wasn't as warm as today (a remarkable 50F/10C) but it wasn't bitter cold or sleeting or any other horrors. I walked to the nearby Mystic River and here's what I saw.

This little cutie. I haven't tried yet to figure out what kind of bird it is.

Lunar eclipse
Feb. 20th, 2008 11:05 pmOh wow, the moon looks absolutely gorgeous - we lucked out with such a clear night. I know one of those twinkles of light near the moon is actually Saturn, not sure which one. (The brightest, perhaps?) I've been outside twice, looking at it until I'm freezing cold (which doesn't take long since it's quite cold out there.) I can see the moon through my living room window but you just don't get the color and the full effect from indoors.
I haven't seen a lunar eclipse since that magical night when the Red Sox won the World Series and the moon turned red.

Happy Groundhog Day!
Feb. 2nd, 2008 03:20 pmOf course the groundhog saw his shadow today, meaning six more weeks of winter. (Or, I suppose, six more weeks of summer for those of you below the equator! Does it work that way too? :-) ) Eh, whatever... it means we are at the winter halfway mark here...it's getting noticeably lighter outside, and Spring will come!!! Yes!!!
