Two critters: one domestic, one wild
Apr. 24th, 2007 09:50 amLast night while flossing my teeth in the bathroom, I heard the bathroom door creak, and in came the cat. He stood by the toilet. Just stood there as I flossed. And I realized what he wanted to do. And that he didn't want to do it in front of me. He looked at the door, as if deciding if it was worth waiting me out. I didn't leave, continuing to take care of my teeth (carefully, since I'd reinjured my tongue that afternoon - waah!) Finally the cat decided to go for it: he put his paws up on the toilet seat and reached his head down in a rather undignified position, to drink out of the toilet. :-) I'm really going to miss living with
zayinel!
This morning I was walking on the bike path toward the bus stop when I noticed an unusual rock on the bike path... A turtle-shaped rock, to be exact. Sure enough, it was a baby turtle, no more than two inches in diameter. I stopped in front of the turtle, who immediately retreated its little head into its shell. Should I interfere? I wondered, or let nature take its course. I decided the turtle hadn't asked the bike path to exist, and it would be much safer if moved off the concrete and onto the grass, closer to the river. So I lifted the little thing up, and its head and legs came out - so cute! I put it on the grass and it walked a few steps, quickly! Then stood perfectly still, rock-like.
