Before I forget...a list of things I want to do during future trips to NYC:

See the first half of Spamalot! (If I can afford it...ticket prices have doubled!)
Hang around the theatre hoping for glimpes of Tim Curry! (Yeah, I know, pathetic. :) )
Go to Coney Island.
Go to Ellis Island. (I really want to do this!!)
Visit museum of Broadcasting and Television (or whatever it is called)
Visit newly-reopened Museum of Modern Art.
Look into television studio tours (like they have in LA) or maybe even being in the studio audience of something silly.
Go to The Village.
Spend more time in Central Park.
Take advantage of half-price ticket booth now that I know where it is!
Eat at a good kosher deli. (Recommendations, anyone?)

[livejournal.com profile] secret_willow: is there anything I'm forgetting?

[edit on 12/8/05 to add: find John Lennon's memorial in Central Park. (hint: it would be near the Dakota)]

That sounds like a fair start and at least 3 more trips worth of things to do.

Must see
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<a [...] cloisters</a>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Must see <a href="http://www.metmuseum.org/events/ev_cloisters.asp".THE CLOISTERS</a> in Fort Tryon Park, above the city. Part of the Metroplitan Museum of Art. Lovely views, and gardens.

In Central Park, check out <a href="http://www.vacationidea.com/new_york_city/shakespeare_garden_central_park.html">the Shakespeare Garden</a> @ 81st Street, West Side, enter from 79th Street and Central Park West.

Move on the the nearby Delacorte Theatre for FREE Shakespeare in the Park. You can look down on that from the Belvedere Castle. (All referenced and pictured in the url above.)

From there, head south to <a href="http://www.vacationidea.com/new_york_city/ramble_central_park_nyc.html">the Ramble.</a>

Further southward, go sit on or under the <a href="http://www.vacationidea.com/new_york_city/alice_in_wonderland_central_park_nyc.html">Alice in Wonderland statue </a>.

Eat at <a href="http://www.thecentralparkboathouse.com/sections/home.htm">The Board House.</a> I have no idea how good the food is, but it's a lovely spot for a late afternoon lunch and lingering while looking out at the water and the Central Park West skyline in the distance.

Evening, check out <a href="http://69.0.173.64/tg1003/newsite/contactdetails.asp?headinfo=visitingtavern&subhead=contact">The Tavern On the Green </a>(West 68th Street and Central Park West). You don't have to splurge on the expensive dinners: they've got a nice bar upstairs. It's nice to see all lit up in the evenings.

Kosher deli = <a href="http://www.2ndavedeli.com/home.html">Second Avenuy\e Deli</a> in the lower East Village or <a href="http://www.citidex.com/286.htm#C3721">these</a>, but i've never been, can't make a personal recommendation.

Too bad I'm closing up the apartment (well, not closing, but giving it up for renting out) in NYC: It WAS nice to be able to say "hey, let's go to NY, stay at my mom's place off Central Park West." Everybody sing "Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end. . . "

These are great suggestions, thanks! And since Secret_Willow has just found out we actually CAN get reasonably priced (for NY) tickets to Spamalot (I don't know where he was looking but he's better than this than I am) we're definitely going to go back and see the entire play! Yay!
