Today's wildlife pics

I've been having a quiet day at home: did laundry, revised a Torchwood fanfic story (haven't gotten up the nerve to post it yet), and did some grocery shopping -- it was time for a Trader Joe's run, so I walked around Arlington Reservoir first. Lovely, steamy hot day. I love summer!

A monarch butterfly

This tree apparently fell over some time ago but it is alive and well. It looks like the greenery toward the top of it is new growth. It's somehow adapted to living in the water.

Bees visiting some flowers. I don't know what kind of flowers these are. Or what kind of bees for that matter! :-) And bees now remind me of Doctor Who (having just rewatched "Stolen Earth" last night. Yes, I'm such a geek.)
